Rabbi Daniel Channen - Chumras: Beyond the letter of the law

An expert in kashrut spoke bout the difference between the strict letter of the law and additional stringencies ("chumras") that people take on. How kosher is kosher enough?

Rabbi Daniel Channen, shlita, from Yeshiva Pirchei Shoshanim has given shiurim to hundreds of students both on a private level and as part of a wider range of Semicha programs. Many of his students have chosen to pursue Semicha (Rabbinic ordination).

For many years Rabbi Channen was a prolific artist and writer authoring books that explored difficult sections of the Talmud – his latest works have received worldwide attention and interest. Rabbi Channen has gained an international reputation as a thorough and dynamic teacher with a unique gift in helping students understand very difficult concepts. For the past 17 years, Rabbi Channen has served as a guide for halachic decisions (“moreh hora’ah”) relating to kashrut in his community.

Aryeh Citron was born in California and learned in Yeshivahs around the world before recieving his Smicha in Melbourne Australia. He lives in Miami where he teaches Torah to Jews of all ages. He recently authored a book called "The Practical Parsha" Weekly Halacha for Daily Living.
